Man killed in single-car crash
The Star Democrat:
"when his vehicle veered off the highway and hit a tree. "
Police said there was no indication that alcohol or high speeds were factors in the crash.
It is better to hit the deer, it will move more than a tree will.
Carjacker sentenced to 12 years in prison
The Star Democrat: "In March 2002, Carlos Cannon stole a car from the driveway of Wayne Trice's house on Reliance Road in Federalsburg, drove it away as Trice hollered at him to stop, then wrecked it less than a mile down the road."
The accident was so terrible that Cannon - a man with a long criminal record who had just returned to the area after being released from jail in Florida where he had been imprisoned on a burglary charge - had to be cut from the car.
Bus driver charged with DUI
The Star Democrat
The girl used a cell phone to call her mother on the ride from Easton High School to Easton Elementary School. She got scared when the driver swerved to avoid hitting a parked mail truck on South Washington Street.
Her mother immediately called the transportation office, said Masone, and a Maryland Certified Bus Trainer was dispatched to Easton Elementary School to meet the bus there.
The trainer, a bus driver with an additional level of training, boarded the bus and sat behind Thompson as he made two stops to drop off students.
"After two stops, he did everything right. He stopped at stop signs, talked OK, let children out and operated safety lights," said Masone.
Masone said the trainer's first indication that Thompson was intoxicated came when he sideswiped the van in the YMCA parking lot. Masone said it was "to some extent bad luck" that the trainer didn't pick up on Thompson's condition before that.
According to charging papers, Pfc. Gregory D. Hall went to the scene and saw that Thompson's eyes were bloodshot and watery. Hall said Thompson had a "moderate odor" of alcohol on his breath and was unsteady when he walked.
The driver failed field sobriety tests. He agreed to take a breathalyzer test and was taken to Cambridge Police Department to take the test. His test showed an alcohol concentration of .10.

1DY-807 MD Black Nissan Frontier truck w/bike rack
Left lane going ( sometimes just ) under the speed limit while people (lots of them) try to pass you on the right makes you stick out like a sore thumb. Swerving onto the left shoulder every couple minutes, drifting to the right edge of that lane and into the next makes you more obvious. Right lane, same problem. Off onto the right shoulder a couple of times each few miles. Gets a lot more dangerous once you get on the deadliest highway in Maryland. Crossing the double yellow is time to pull over and take a nap.
You drove like this for over thirty-five miles. Delaware State Police are also looking for you.

AP Wire | 12/03/2004 | Man Hits Gas, Drives Into Coffee Shop
AP Wire | 12/03/2004 | Man Hits Gas, Drives Into Coffee Shop: "CORVALLIS, Ore. - A 74-year-old man accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes as he was trying to park his car and crashed into a Corvallis coffee shop, officials said.
A woman was taken to a hospital and released after the accident, which scattered shards of glass across the cafe.
'It felt like an earthquake. The whole thing shook,' said business owner Jenny Lyons, who explained she was working in the back of the cafe when the car smashed through a large plate glass window and went more than halfway into the business.
About 20 people were in the shop, and one regular, Claudia Wise of Albany, had her leg pinned underneath the vehicle.
Officials estimate the crash caused about $3,000 worth of damage to the building.
The driver, Harry Schultz, was cited for careless driving, said Corvallis police Capt. John Sassaman. There was no indication that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash."
