highpointers.org Access Restrictions: "Avoid Subdivision Access on Maryland
Monday, June 28th, 2004
Thanks to the Gene and Lillian Elliott this highpoint is permitted despite opposition from the neighboring Backbone Subdivision. DO NOT VIST the highpoint by going through the Backbone subdivision. Rather, go a mile into West Virginia and you will see the signs. Its a pleasant walk. The highpoint is owned by West Pochontos Coal Company.

Waiver Required for Climbing Black Mountain, Kentucky
Friday, May 28th, 2004
The summit is owned by Penn Valley Coal Company. The State of Kentucky in 2000 bought the summit timber and mineral rights in a very contentious and high profile battle for $4 Million during which access was cut off. The Coal Company permits access but you must sign a liability waiver and mail it. You can get the waiver at http://americasroof.com/ky-release.html

Other Privately Owned Highpoints

Indiana - Be careful about the kids and farm equipment.
Iowa - The Sterlers are the ultimate great highpoint friends. The highpoint is by their cattle trough. Dont visit late.
Kansas - The owners have created a nice park. Be respectful!
Louisiana - Youre crossing private property as you walk past the church into the woods
Michigan - The highpoint is owned by Meade Paper. They have spent thousands of dollars to grade the road and want you to park by a pond about a half mile from the summit.
Mississippi - The highpoint is privately owned and theres a cluster of antenna on the summit.
Nebraska - This privately owned highpoint is requesting $5 donations. They also do not"

Division of Parks and Recreation--Mount Mitchell State Park, Park history: "In the 1850s, controversy arose about which peak in the range was the highest. Thomas Clingman, a former student of Dr. Mitchell's, and a United States senator, set the elevation of the highest peak at 6,941 feet and insisted that Mitchell had measured another peak. In 1857, Dr. Mitchell returned to the Black Mountains to verify his measurements and to support his claim. While hiking across the mountain, he fell from a cliff above a 40-foot waterfall. Knocked unconscious by the fall, Dr. Mitchell drowned in the water below. In honor of his work, the highest peak in the Black Mountain range was given his name in 1858. Though originally buried in Asheville, Mitchell's body was reburied atop Mount Mitchell a year later. "

It's all Clingman's fault. ;-)

FAQ for New SUV and H2 "Hummer" Owners
FAQ for New SUV and H2 "Hummer" Owners: "Q2: When I bought my Ford Expedition about a year ago, I was told that I would be going to the mountains, driving through deserts and heavy mud, camping out under the stars with at least two hot High School girls. Instead I'm stuck in traffic 90% of the time, slogging back and forth between home, K-Mart, and work. When will I start being a rugged mountain logging man? "

FAQ for New SUV and H2 "Hummer" Owners: "Q1: I made the original down payment on an H2 'Hummer' and I've been driving it for over half a year now and I still can't find my penis and women still hate me and call me an asshole. When does the H2 'Hummer' start to kick in? When will I finally be a real man? "

FUH2 | Fuck You And Your H2: "My friend and I were comming back from a weekend trip, in his Prius, 'Driving for high score' (we drive to see what kind of high gas milage we can get) and were talking about bumper stickers we could slap on these things: 1) I'm using more than my fair share of dwindling recourses. Ask me why! 2) If you can read this then you are breathing just a little of the two metric tons of pollutants this vehicle will spew out this year. 3) (and our fave) Does this SUV make my dick look small?"
