highpointers.org Access Restrictions: "Avoid Subdivision Access on Maryland
Monday, June 28th, 2004
Thanks to the Gene and Lillian Elliott this highpoint is permitted despite opposition from the neighboring Backbone Subdivision. DO NOT VIST the highpoint by going through the Backbone subdivision. Rather, go a mile into West Virginia and you will see the signs. Its a pleasant walk. The highpoint is owned by West Pochontos Coal Company.

Waiver Required for Climbing Black Mountain, Kentucky
Friday, May 28th, 2004
The summit is owned by Penn Valley Coal Company. The State of Kentucky in 2000 bought the summit timber and mineral rights in a very contentious and high profile battle for $4 Million during which access was cut off. The Coal Company permits access but you must sign a liability waiver and mail it. You can get the waiver at http://americasroof.com/ky-release.html

Other Privately Owned Highpoints
Sunday, March 28th, 2004
Indiana - Be careful about the kids and farm equipment.
Iowa - The Sterlers are the ultimate great highpoint friends. The highpoint is by their cattle trough. Dont visit late.
Kansas - The owners have created a nice park. Be respectful!
Louisiana - Youre crossing private property as you walk past the church into the woods
Michigan - The highpoint is owned by Meade Paper. They have spent thousands of dollars to grade the road and want you to park by a pond about a half mile from the summit.
Mississippi - The highpoint is privately owned and theres a cluster of antenna on the summit.
Nebraska - This privately owned highpoint is requesting $5 donations. They also do not"
